Rugby Book Club: Try for the Gold

As we noted earlier today, we are starting a rugby book club. The point of the club is to get rugby fans engaged in more than just watching and playing the sport.

This month, we will be reading Try for the Gold: America's Olympic Rugby Medals by Mark Ryan. Of any book over the last several year's, this book as caught the U.S. rugby publics attention. The book, concentrating on Babe Slater and Rudy Scholz, tells the story of the 1920 and 1924 U.S. gold medal winning rugby teams. The 1924 is still the reigning Olympic champion. As rugby re-enters the Olympics four years from now in Rio, it's fitting that we begin the cycle with this book.

If you don't already own a copy, you can pick one up here.

Since this is our first book club, we'll take a little longer to finish. We will be holding our discussion of the book on October 24th. If you have any questions, contact me at thisisamericanrugby@gmail.com or leave a comment. Until then, enjoy the book!
